GROUNDHOG DAY!

Time: 4:18pm USA / 8:18am AUST

we all know the movie that starred Bill Murray in a day that loops forever, known as Groundhog Day … well the film was based on the small western Pennsylvania township of Punxsutawney, where Phil (the famous groundhog) makes his prediction of an early spring or not! so, being that i’m not thaaaaaat far from Punxsutawney, I thought I might as well go up and freeze my ass off and check it out …

so, tomorrow at approximately midnight we’ll head up to Punxsutawney and patiently wait for Phil’s prediction! it will be damn cold (-10C or colder) so god knows why i’m doing it, but at least i can say i’ve been to the ‘original’ groundhog day and seen the real “Phil” …!

i might even be styling the latest groundhog fashions … such as this lovely item:

i know how jealous you all must be. if you want one i might be kind enough to pickup a few of them and ship them back home … then you can be cool just like me! :)

in other news, work continues to keep me very busy. i’ve also started seeing a chiropractor as my upper back is becoming really painful … it’s pretty scary how much these guys can push and prod your back to help alleviate the discomfort! i’ve never heard my back crack as much as it has this past week!!

lastly, am planning ‘weekend’ trips to Niagara Falls (yes, in winter), Washington DC, and maybe Philadelphia … then hopefully someplace warmer like the BAHAMA’s soon, cause these sub-10C temperatures are getting a little brutal!!

winterrrrrrrrrrrrr …

Time: 2:56pm USA / 6:56am AUST

as promised, albeit somewhat later than I had planned, the pics from NYC over NYE are up! in other news, it’s really turned into winter here now, with temperatures not really going over freezing (0 C / 32 F) for the past few days, and not forecast to go above freezing for the next week!

oh, and the NYC pics are here

THE UPDATE!

Time: 10:19pm USA / 2:19pm AUST

OK - so where the hell do I start? it’s been exactly ONE MONTH since my last proper update … and much has happened! Christmas has come, and gone for another year … it’s now 2007 … and amazingly as I look out my 7th storey window (top floor) of my apartment, I see no snow. No white Christmas, no snow, and average day temperatures in the low double digits (celsius). Apparently this is the 10th warmest winter in recorded history for this area! Maybe I took the Aussie weather with me? I find myself wanting some snow, but I’m sure by the end of winter I’ll be glad to see the last of it … So, onto my adventures … Kate arrived on the 7th December (note: this has nothing to do with my lack of updates!) and we have been doing some sightseeing around Pittsburgh, and in a last-minute-thought took off to New York for a week over New Years. Christmas itself was pretty low-key, and of course we didn’t get a white Christmas, but oh well … maybe next year! (depending on where I may be!) I did, however, manage to slap together (with a certain persons help - Kate) the best Christmas tree I’ve ever had - although there were no presents under it! See here. New Years in New York City … well I can now scratch “see in the new year in Times Square” off my list of things to achieve before I die … with over one million other people I counted down till midnight to bring in 2007! overall, mostly an anti-climax to be honest - this is what it looks like. Whilst also in New York we managed to take a cruise down the Hudson River and out past the Statue of Liberty, which was cool. We also took a night trip across to Brooklyn, which made for some great night pictures here and here. If you want to see more pics, I’m putting them all together and will get them up in a gallery over the coming days - there are just too many to go through right now! On the Friday night, we took a trip up the Empire State Building for a night view of New York City … and again, I cannot stress to all of you enough - BUY AN EXPRESS PASS! Best $20 extra you can possibly spend!! A few snaps of New York from the 102nd floor of the Empire State can be seen here and here (more in the gallery - to come!) One night we went to see a Broadway production of Spamalot, which is a Monty Python mish-mash of all of their movies into one … needless to say, Broadway really did live up to its reputation! Jumping back to New Years, I have never, ever seen so many cops in one place at any one time, in my entire life! There would have been at least 4 or 5 of these hugeeeeeee line ups, being deployed into and around Times Square - and of course I had to jump in and get a picture them all :) We also visited the Natural History Museum on Central Park West, went for a stroll through Central Park, contemplated going ice skating but didn’t, toured around Grand Central Station, and more which I’ll cover when I get the gallery up and running!

That’ll do for now, the forecast is for snow tomorrow and Tuesday! woohoo … SNOW!

update is coming …

by the end of this weekend, i promise! pics of New Years Eve in Times Square, New York City will also be up!
